I could dialogue with my 4th grade colleagues at Wilson Primary Ctr., share ideas, and exchange worksheets for Science classes. <br />
We began teaching Social Studies during Reading time, and began grouping our students for Math to reteach skills. It seems we need to find more interactive ways to reteach Math skills to students during our 30 minutes SUCCESS time. Any ideas?Carol Govek

<ins class="insert">INSPIRE, the Institute for P-12 Engineering Research and Learning at Purdue University, will again host a one week professional development academy for elementary educators who are interested in learning about innovative ways to integrate STEM learning into their classrooms. The Summer Academy provides participating teachers with the chance to work alongside engineers and education researchers to learn what engineers do and how they solve problems, and what this means for educating young learners. <br/>
At the INSPIRE Academy, teachers get hands-on experience with science and mathematics standards-based curricula that are designed to convey the nature and practice of engineering. Teachers are also given the opportunity to practice teaching the engineering design process to young students before taking their new knowledge and skills into their own classrooms.<br/>
This year’s INSPIRE National Academy is being conducted at Purdue (West Lafayette campus) from July 18-23, and is open to teacher teams (up to 7) from school districts across the nation. It is a great professional development opportunity for those educators who are able to attend.<br/>
In addition, each participating teacher will receive a travel reimbursement as well as a $750 stipend, and will also be eligible to receive continuing education credits for completing the Academy.<br/>
There is a March 1st deadline for online team applications to attend the 2010 INSPIRE Summer Academy, and we encourage you to apply online.<br/>

In a world where anyone can put content online and you can form a great many collaborations, it is crucial to be able to handle the flow of information. RSS feeds, readers and personal web pages are relatively newer technologies to help with information flow. But with the advent of powerful and simple search technologies, even good-old email can be used much more efficiently to process the flow of information. Here's a useful tutorial developed by HP--set in Microsoft Outlook, but covering basic skills transferable to any email/webmail context--showing how to become a lean, clean, email-processing machine.<br/>
